The ‘Why am I starting a fashion brand competition?’

The internet is festooned with articles about how to start a fashion brand, but rarely asks the question ‘Why am I starting a fashion brand?’ and so naturally, we have decided to have a competition. The ‘how to’ articles are of course predominantly a right load of piffle, written by characters who have spent less than half an hour in the industry – their closest relationship to clothing may well be their Mum’s washing basket. If you’re in any doubt as to their qualification, just listen to the tone of their writing. If it sounds generally upbeat, and lacking in the cynicism required to anaesthetise the fashion journey, then they probably haven’t earnt the stripes on their imaginary epaulettes. These commentators do have their benefits however. On the off chance you’re ever particularly miserable, nothing delivers a good laugh like a YouTube video entitled ‘How to start a successful fashion brand, with no money or experience’.  Maybe wear an old pair of trousers, in case you laugh too hard and follow through.

The prize – 25% off your first order

Mindfulness.

Yeah ok, we’re going all Californian on you, and we’re supposed to be a proper English blokes who solves all our problems with a pint, a fag and a fight. But when we are considering starting a fashion brand, should we not sit quietly, comfortably with our feet apart, and with eyes closed or open, you can choose, and spend an hour asking ourselves why? With compassion, almost as if we were helping and giving counsel to a dear friend (yes, we’re being cynical, see paragraph one).

Competition.

So we’re going to set an October Textiles competition. The winner will receive 25% off their first order, and if they are interested in the twisted insights of a mad old fashion production lunatic, a few hours in a Mayfair pub with one of our valued representatives. This fascinating fashion manufacturing illumination, will include free drinks, and possibly crisps.

What do I have to do to win this brilliant prize?

Simple. If you are about to start a fashion brand, or have an existing brand that is no more than 3 years old, you qualify to enter. Email your reasons for why you started, or are about to start a fashion brand to info@october.co.uk entitling your email BRILLIANT COMPETITION – we have listed five possible answers to the question ‘Why am I starting a fashion brand’ below to get you going, one of which is quite good:

  • -My Boss is a total knob-end so I want to be self-employed, and I really like clothes, so it’s a no brainer.
  • -I love the feel of velvet against my skin. If I am ever alone, I rub it on my face.
  • -I am passionate about a particular story, which I would like to graphically communicate to a very specific group of people.
  • -I’m rubbish at football and can’t sing, but would really like to get laid. I think owning my own fashion brand might help.
  • -Because it would be really sik.

The one winner will be entirely at our discretion. There will be points for being funny, clever, and saying moving things which make us cry. (That doesn’t mean you Dr Whapoopoo, we’ve got your email, and know you need us to send $8 million to the orphanage at Ju Ju Junction, we’re on it, give us time).

The duration of the competition is until we get a really good answer – if we haven’t had one by the end of April, we’ll just pick the one that’s the least hopeless.

Basically, the rules are, whatever we want, and we will make sure that the winner gets £25% off their order, even if it’s a big one, and costs October Textiles a load of cash. We may also be biased to people who can be bothered to follow us on Facebook and Instagram. Not because we think they work, but because we’re sick of being told to post stuff by our web heads, and may as well do it to as many people as possible.

That’s it – crack on.
